Otoplasty (ear surgery) is an operation aimed at recreating normal contour and appearance to a malformed ear. Reasons for otoplasty include widely protruding ears (prominauris), cauliflower ear deformity, microtia (abnormally small ears), or other ear deformities as in those with a congenital disability. In adults, otoplasty may be undertaken at any time – however, in children, the ear continues to grow and otoplasty should not be performed before 5-6 years of age, as the ear approaches a more adult size. The procedure is usually done as an outpatient in an operating room suite with various levels of anesthesia depending on the patient.

Ear/Earlobe repair is aimed at recreating and restructuring the ear to create balance and symmetry. The most common reasons patients seek out repair of the ear are for tears caused by earrings or stretching caused by ear gauges. This procedure is done in the office and as an outpatient procedure. Much like all things we do, the approach is individualized to each patient and different techniques are used to optimize each patient’s result.
