Dermal fillers have been commonly used for several years to minimize the effects of aging. You may find yourself admiring the results of fillers on other people, but are missing out on the magic for yourself because you aren’t sure which details about treatment are true and which are myth. We’d like to clear up those misconceptions.
If I get dermal fillers, people will know I’ve had dermal fillers.
One of the most common misconceptions about dermal fillers is that the outcome of treatment will look obvious. The problem with this myth is that there is a bit of truth to it. If injectables are not administered properly by a trained, licensed professional, there is a chance that results will look obvious or not as expected. There have also been instances in which people have gone too far with dermal fillers. Seeing as many who have overdone it are in the public eye, it is easy to believe that all treatments come out looking the same.
The truth is, your dermal filler treatment is administered to look as natural as possible. Because we see the effects of dermal filler product in the skin immediately, we can fill just enough to achieve your desired appearance.
Dermal filler treatments are painful.
Many people who are preparing for their first injectable treatment are concerned about pain. After all, treatment literally involves needles. Even if you know someone who has had dermal filler treatment and has said it is not painful, you can’t know this for sure until you experience injectables for yourself. We understand this. Here’s what we want you to know. First, injectables are administered with a very fine needle that barely makes a pinch when it permeates the skin. Second, there are strategies that can be implemented to further improve comfort, such as applying ice just before or just after injections or applying a numbing cream to the skin before treatment. Numbing cream can be effective, but it does need to sit on the skin for several minutes so you will need to allow a little extra time for your appointment.
If I don’t like my results, I have to live with them.
This is another myth about dermal fillers that has some truth to it. If you are concerned that you may not absolutely love the results achieved with dermal fillers, talk with your provider. Products made with hyaluronic acid, such as Juvéderm and Belotero, can be dissolved with a minor injection of an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
There are many more reasons to venture into the world of dermal fillers than to postpone this convenient cosmetic treatment. To schedule your consultation, call our St. Louis office at 314-475-3700.
